“Archery… it’s for the entire family!”
The above was PeacockArchery’s slogan. This used to be a large archery store, indoor range and archery museum located in downtown Belton, TX, right between Dallas and Austin. The store unfortunately no longer operates but below are pictures showing what it looked like. The store featured an 18 lane (20 yards each) range which introduced many people to the world of archery, including myself. For those who are new to archery and are contemplating purchasing their first bows, you may want to check out the this resource on some of the best compound bows, and for your recurve bow needs we recommend these reviews on recurve bows to help you get started in the right direction.
The store was a place where you could get all types of bows, arrows and accessories, and some crossbows were available as well. Open hours 9 am to 7:30 PM Monday through Friday, and 9am – 6PM on Saturdays.
The great thing about indoor archery ranges is that you can go shooting regardless of weather and the season. Outdoor ranges are in abundance, but if it’s the middle of winter and you want to go do some shooting with your Bear Grizzly or Hoyt Buffalo to hone your skills and tune your bow for the upcoming hunting season, an outdoor range definitely won’t do the trick – your hands will freeze and you’ll have a tough time maintaining consistency and properly drawing and releasing. Indoor ranges solve this problem, plus additionally make it easier to tune the bow as there are no unpredictable variables (such as wind, varying moisture levels etc.) that can impact the way your string and arrows behave.
If you live in Texas, then you are probably in luck, as there are tons of ranges and archery suppliers and dealers in the area, particularly when it comes to Hoyt, PSE, Easton and Martin Archery products. There are also tons both outdoor and indoor ranges available almost everywhere you go. If you live in a different State however, or are located in Canada, then it can get tougher, as archery-related venues aren’t as widespread, so you may need to do some more research. I recommend using the following archery range finder at bowhuntinginfo.
Please remember Peacock’s slogan which says that archery is for the entire family! There is no need for you to go alone – take your kids, spouse or siblings with you and you’ll see how much fun you can have at the range. Just follow safety guidelines, adhere to the commands of the instructor at the range, and you’ll have an experience of a lifetime.
